Final Fantasy Wiki

Death-sentence is a status in Final Fantasy VII that applies a timer to 60 seconds (30 if the target is in Haste). If the timer hits 0 during battle, the target will be put into Death state unless they have Death Force. Death-sentence is similar to Slow-numb, though in the Battle Square, Death-sentence will not carry on to the next round whereas Slow-numb will. There are only two methods in the game of applying Death-sentence to a target.

Tifa's Powersoul weapon doubles in power if she is near death, and quadruples in power when she is under Death-sentence, making equipping her with Curse Ring potentially beneficial.

Abilities[]

Spell Death Sentence (E.Skill)
"Auto"-Death Sentence The accessory Curse Ring has the wearer start the battle with Death-sentence.

Enemy abilities[]

Ability Description Enemy
Death Sentence Inflicts Death-sentence to one target. Can be learned as an E.Skill. Boundfat, Gi Spector, Sneaky Step

Protection[]

The following methods allow the player to protect against Death-sentence:

Accessory Safety Bit
Status Resist, Peerless

Death Force protects against Death, so if the timer expires, the afflicted will not die.

Enemies[]

The following enemies are immune to Death-sentence. All bosses, except Dark Nation, Pyramid, and Sample:H0512-opt, are immune to Death-sentence (but the player cannot have Death Sentence for these battles in a normal playthrough).

Use[]

Death-sentence is not a very useful status, as most fights are easily won and can be ended long before the 60 seconds time limit expires. Death-sentence is useless on machine enemies and several of the more powerful enemies, like Blue Dragon. The player can only use Death-sentence with the Death Sentence Enemy Skill, as there is no other means of inflicting the status either for the player or enemy. If the player wishes to attempt to use Death-sentence, a more applicable approach is to inflict the status and then apply Haste to the enemy to make the timer start at 30 seconds instead of 60 and expire even faster.
