Use[]
DeSpell can be used by characters with the Destruct Materia at level 2. It removes a large variety of positive status effects, including Haste, Regen, Barrier, MBarrier, Reflect, Shield, Death Force, and Resist. It also removes Slow and Stop, meaning in the latter cases it can be used defensively. Removing positive statuses from enemies can be helpful in many fights, leaving them more vulnerable to attacks and weaker, and is especially helpful against enemies that use these statuses often. Crucially, DeSpell pierces Reflect.
DeSpell can be amplified by linking the Destruct Materia with a few Support Materia. All Materia allows it to remove statuses from multiple enemies, and both Added Cut and Steal as well provide an additional action taken by the character after removing the enemies' defenses. Though other Support Materia are compatible, they do not provide useful effects.
DeSpell removes more statuses than DeBarrier, for an only slightly higher MP cost. One alternative to DeSpell is the Holy Torch item, which removes all the same statuses besides Death Force and Resist, which the player would not want to remove anyway.
DeBarrier is used by Safer∙Sephiroth and Valron.
