Final Fantasy Wiki

Daze is a negative status effect in Final Fantasy XIII that makes the afflicted unable to use role abilities and any pending actions will be canceled. Unlike with Pain and Fog, the ATB gauge will also pause for the ailment's duration. The party leader can still use Techniques and Items under Daze.

The status is removed by being damaged; the attack that removes Daze will deal double damage. The effects of healing abilities, like Cure, will also be doubled, without removing the status ailment.

Daze status is available to the player fairly late; of the party's first Saboteurs, Vanille cannot learn it, and Fang learns it late in her Crystarium on level 8; Snow is the party's best Daze-user as he learns it on Crystarium Level 7 and has the fastest casting animation. Daze is not overly useful, however, as tough enemies will be immune to it. If the player contracts the status, it should be healed as soon as possible.

Mechanics[]

Because Daze has a minimum duration, it is possible for multiple attacks to deal double damage before the status is removed. Daze allows an attack to deal up to 199,998 damage without a Genji Glove equipped.

AI-controlled Commandos will not attack a dazed enemy as long as there are other un-dazed enemies on the field. If all enemies are dazed, the AI-controlled Commandos will act as normal and split the targets up between them. AI-controlled Ravagers will only target a dazed enemy if the player targets it and there is no Commando or there are no other targets available, though they will still use area attacks that can hit dazed targets.

Abilities[]

Game Element Type Effect
Daze Saboteur ability for Sazh, Snow, and Fang Inflicts Daze to the target for 60 seconds (base duration). Base chance 30%.
Dazega Saboteur ability for Snow, Fang, and Hope Inflicts Daze to the targets in range for 60 seconds (base duration). Base chance 24%.

Ailment duration for effects inflicted from spells cast in battle can be somewhat lengthened with high chain gauge when the spell hits the target, and the Jinx ability. In addition, Daze lasts for one more second for every 100 points of Magic the caster has; anything that directly affects the Magic stat will help, such as Faith status and the Power Surge passive abilities, with Stifled Magic and Fettered Magic being exceptions.

Enemy abilities[]

Daze from enemy attacks tends to be shorter than from a Saboteur's Daze spells.

Resistance[]

The player can resist Daze with Veil status, as well as the Rainbow Anklet and Moonbow Anklet accessories for Daze specifically, and Ribbon and Super Ribbon for all status ailments. The Debuff Resistance passive ability can additionally used to shorten the duration of Daze.

Removal[]

Daze can be removed with Esuna, Dispelga, and Foul Liquid. Being damaged also removes the status. Also, when an Eidolon is dismissed, regardless of whether it entered Gestalt Mode, all party members will be fully healed, both status and HP.

Enemies[]

The higher the number, the more susceptible the enemy is to the status.

Enemies fought when the player lacks access to the Daze spell still programmed resistances to the status even if the player cannot use the status against them in a normal playthrough.
