Daze (虚脱(ダル), Kyodatsu (Daru)?) is a recurring status effect in Lightning Saga games, commonly inflicted via the Daze spell. It prevents the afflicted from acting.

Final Fantasy XIII[]

Daze is a status ailment that prevents the victim from taking any action. Similar to Pain and Fog, Daze will cancel any pending actions, but the ATB gauge will also pause for its duration. The party leader can still use Techniques and Items under Daze.

The status lasts for a short time and can be removed by being damaged; the attack that removes Daze will deal double the damage it normally does. Because Daze has a minimum duration, it is possible for multiple attacks to deal double damage before the status is removed. Daze allows an attack to deal up to 199,998 damage without a Genji Glove equipped. The effects of healing abilities like Cure will also be doubled, without removing the status ailment.

Saboteurs are capable of inflicting Daze. AI-controlled Commandos will not attack a Dazed enemy as long as there are other un-Dazed enemies on the field. If all enemies are Dazed, the AI-controlled Commandos will act as normal and split the targets up between them. AI-controlled Ravagers will only target a Dazed enemy if the player targets it and there is no Commando or there are no other targets available, though they will still use area attacks that can hit Dazed targets.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII[]

Daze is a status inflicted by several enemy abilities, preventing Lightning from performing any action in combat for a short period of time. These include Aerora when used by Gaunt Ω, Daze Strike from Noel Kreiss and Noel Kreiss+, Plaguebreath when used by Gurangatch Ω, and So Hungry! from Chocobo Eater and Chocobo Eater Ω.

Lightning can inflict Daze on enemies with the Shadowbind ability for the Soldier of Peace garb, but her version of the status naturally lasts 3 seconds on a target. A similar status known as Dazed can also be inflicted on targets by staggering them, but lasts much longer.
