Dawntrail (song)

"Dawntrail" is the main theme of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. It was revealed on January 6 in 2024's Japan Fan Festival, as part of the full trailer of Dawntrail.

Two versions of the song were released as part of the Dawntrail 7-inch Vinyl Single prior to the expansion's release: "Open Sky - The Theme from Dawntrail", performed wholly by The Primals, and "Dawntrail", the arrangement of the theme used in the trailer, incorporating vocals by Amanda Achen.

The official lyrics of "Dawntrail" were included in the Dawntrail 7-inch Vinyl Single released on June 5, 2024.

The lyrics make references to all the previous expansions:

FINAL FANTASY XIV: DAWNTRAIL Full Trailer

The main theme was revealed with the full trailer of Dawntrail. The trailer follows the Warrior of Light as they sail towards Tural, picturing them and various members of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn in Tuliyollal.

The theme is arranged into a motif played in various tracks in the game, sharing elements with the song "Smile". An instrumental version titled "Dawntrail (Instrumental)" also appears in the game. "Dawntrail", "Dawntrail (Instrumental)", and "Open Sky - The Theme from Dawntrail" are tracks 1, 20, and 55 respectively on the Dawntrail: Final Fantasy XIV Original Soundtrack.

"Dawntrail" is arranged as the miniboss theme and boss theme in the Dungeons of the expansion. "Roads Forsaken" (路を遮るもの, Michi o Saegiru Mono?, lit. One Obstructing the Roads) is an arrangement by Justin Frieden and Masayoshi Soken that plays as the dungeon miniboss theme. "Pathmaker" (路を拓くもの, Michi o Hiraku Mono?) is an arrangement by Takafumi Imamura that plays as the dungeon boss theme.

"The Skyruin" is an arrangement of the theme of Urqopacha and "Dawntrail" by Saya Yasaki that plays during the boss battle against Valigarmanda in the Worqor Lar Dor trial.

DAWNTRAIL 7-inch Vinyl Single Music Video (FINAL FANTASY XIV)

A music video for "Open Sky - The Theme from Dawntrail" was released as part of the promotion for the Dawntrail 7-inch Vinyl Single. The music video follows a young girl with a Cait Sith plush doll and other Final Fantasy themed memorabilia sleeping the morning summer begins. Throughout the video, The Primals alternatively perform "Open Sky" in the beach and in the girl's bedroom, as she struggles to wake, and dreams of fantastical happenings in her bedroom. Waking up, the girl finds a new skateboard gifted to her by her father and rides off towards the beach after purchasing a taco from a street cart manned by members of the band.

Dawntrail 7-inch Vinyl Single

"Dawntrail" and "Open Sky - The Theme from Dawntrail" are the only tracks in the single.

Behind the scenes

The main theme is composed by Masayoshi Soken and arranged by both Soken and The Primals, performed by The Primals, with lyrics written by Michael-Christopher Koji Fox and head of localization Kathryn Cwynar, lyric concept and translation by Natsuko Ishikawa, vocals by Koji and Amanda Achen, and solo violin by Yuma Ito.

A fragment of the theme was first revealed with the release of the initial teaser trailer for the expansion.
