Darkness is a status in Final Fantasy. It is primarily associated with the Spirit element.

Content in italics is exclusive to the Dawn of Souls and/or 20th Anniversary releases.

Mechanics[]

Darkness reduces the base hit rate of the victim by 40, reducing the chance to hit with physical attacks. It additionally increases the base hit rate of incoming attacks by 40, making the victim more vulnerable to physical attacks. If both the attacker and defender are afflicted with Darkness, its effects are cancelled out. Darkness is automatically removed at the end of battle.

As with other statuses, it is only possible to be immune to the Darkness condition in the Pixel Remaster release; in prior releases, the most one can do is resist the element of an attack that inflicts the status, reducing its accuracy. Even if a target is listed as resisting Darkness, this is in reference to the element, rather than effects that can inflict Darkness.
