Darkness is a status in Final Fantasy IX that halves the current accuracy of the affected party member or enemy and makes them unable to evade attacks themselves. Darkness (or any other status abnormality) does not affect Zidane's Steal success. Darkness persists after battle, unless with Guardian Mog in effect. The afflicted has a dark cloud on their face.

Use[]

Darkness is a fairly benign status, but works against many enemies. It making one unable to evade ensures the player's attacks do not go wasted due to missing. However, the player should simply use Accuracy+ for this purpose for all physical attackers as soon as it can be learned. To stop enemies hitting the player party, the player can also use Vanish.
