Edit
Untimely encounters with a Dark Wizard can result in a party being destroyed outright. The Dark Wizard uses magic, including Firaga, Thundaga, Scourge, Death, and Slowra. They are slow to react and will use physical attacks just as often as casting spells, but when they do cast spells, the party can be in trouble if already weakened, at low level, or the wizards appear in larger groups.
They appear in the Cavern of Ice, and in the third basement of the Chaos Shrine. Usually, Dark Wizards appear in groups of one to four elves, though in the Chaos Shrine, they can appear in even larger packs. They also serve as the guardians of the chest on the right hand side of the Levistone.
Strategy
Edit
The Silence spell can be a life-saver, as can NulShock, NulBlaze, NulDeath, and Protect Rings. It is best to use physical attacks as the wizards do not have any elemental weaknesses.
Etymology

Magician. Wizards in fantasy literature and RPGs often draw from the fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien, whose Wizards of Middle-earth are a group of beings outwardly resembling Men but possessing much greater physical and mental power. Each Wizard has robes of a characteristic color, Gandalf the Grey being a quintessential example.
