Etymology
Daedalus is a figure in Greek mythology. He is a great inventor with such still of machines that they seem to be alive. With his knowledge, Daedalus built the Labyrinth of Minotaur fame. He also constructed wings for himself and his son (or nephew, depending on the interpretation), Icarus. He built the wings after he was jailed by King Midos. He was jailed because of helping Theseus escape the Labyrinth from the pleading of Ariadne, the King's daughter. With the wings, Icarus was able to fly very high, though Daedalus instructed him not to. However, the boy was killed when he flew too close to the Sun, melting the glue that held the wings together. Daedalus, though with grief, continued his flight to another kingdom.
