Wh-what am I doing here? What have I done?!

Dabog aan Inivisch is a non-player character from Final Fantasy XIV. Former Bozjan Resistance member, he is a hypertuned soldier of the IVth Imperial Legion's magitek unit, Dabog pilots two of the latest warmachina to be conceived by the Empire: the scorpion-type Vigilia and the flying armor Gabriel.

Field Record portrait.

The death of his parents and siblings in the Bozja incident prompted Dabog to join the Resistance, and for more than a decade he fought tirelessly against his hated Empire. Even when he was taken prisoner two years ago, he never stopped fighting, and ever sought a way to flee his captors. But on one such attempt, he plummeted from the castrum wall, the long fall shattering his spine. The chirurgeon's diagnosis was grim: he would not live out the week.

Many of the Empire's weapons have been sent to Valnain, where they undergo enhancement under the supervision of Senior Engineer Sicinius mal Vellutus. Two notable fruits of this project are Vigilia and Gabriel, which are designed to be controlled both physically and mentally for superior responsiveness and maneuverability. Piloting these units, however, demands a heightened state of mental sensitivity verging on telepathy, and only those soldiers who have been augmented with magitek can achieve the requisite synchronization between man and machine. While theoretically sound and showing promise in the laboratory, this new interface technology remains in its infancy, and being all too familiar with the fickleness of the flesh, Sicinius resolved to test it fully in Bozja in preparation for the outbreak of conflict in Dalmasca. For this he required a test subject, and the person chosen was Dabog.

In the IVth Imperial Legion, testing is only permitted upon living men when their safety is absolutely assured, and be it friend or foe, all individuals are to be treated with compassion. Thus has the legatus himself decreed. Perverting his commander's noble intent for his own ends, Sicinius reasoned that he was saving a man's life, and proceeded with his testing in secret.

So it was that Dabog was reborn a hypertuned soldier and returned to the battlefield at the helm of fearsome new warmachina. And owing to a further act of so-called compassion on Sicinius's part, he is spared the pain of having to kill his former comrades─for he no longer remembers them.[1]

Dabog is encountered throughout the Zadnor Plateau, being recognized by Bajsaljen in the first area of Zadnor who hopes that in defeating the IVth they will be able to rescue him. Dabog is encountered a second time in Zadnor's second area where he is found by Marsak wandering confused in the field before attacking in a new model Gabriel. In Zadnor's final area Bajsaljen pleads with Dabog to return with them after destroying yet another Gabriel model when Sicinius reveals that what the resistance sees before them is not Dabog but just an 'organic component' designed to pilot their warmachina before deploying several hrothgar identical to Dabog who engage the resistance. In the ensuing fight, aided by the arrival of Marsak and other reinforcements, the resistance leaders demand to know where the real Dabog is to which Sicinius informs them that Dabog eventually succumbed to the rigors of testing their machines. Revealing that he took Dabog's memories and tactical expertise and implanted them into these new hypertuned soldiers. Appalled, Bajsaljen and Marsak swear to avenge Dabog and put an end to Sicinius' inhumane experiments.

Sometime after the IVth Legion's defeat, Sicinius mal Vellutus is handed over by Lyon to Dalmasca where he reveals in an interview how he perfected the techniques of Valens van Varro in extracting memories and implanting them into other hrothgar prisoners. Admitting that in his efforts to make them 'perfect' he had said prisoners aesthetically modified to resemble the original Dabog and relished the reaction of the resistance soldiers upon seeing his creations take to the field.

It is unknown if the Warrior of Light ever encountered the original Dabog or if all of the copies of him were killed following the fall of the IVth Legion.

Dabog is a hrothgar with gray fur and white hair. He has red eyes and wears a red Bearliege Cuirass.

Prior to his capture by the IVth Legion it can be surmised Dabog was a determined individual based on his field log entry. When Dabog is encountered by the Warrior of Light he is a ruthless person while piloting warmachina and refers to himself as a test subject, conveying a more emotionless state as the result of the experiments performed on him. He also seems to suffer from bouts schizophrenia when encountered outside of combat as he questions who and what he is, what he has done, as well as insisting on needing his "medicine" before having a fit of laughter when he remembers his supposed "mission".

In The Bozjan Southern Front The Bozjan Southern Front, initially Dabog can be fought by piloting the Vigilia during the Vigil for the Lost Vigil for the Lost Critical Engagement. Depending on the player's performance during the Crital Engagement, the player can be called for a rematch. In the Aces High Aces High Solo Engagement, Dabog pilot the Gabriel. Dabog is also seen piloting the hexdrone in the skirmish Murder Death Kill Murder Death Kill.
