Cycle quests are recurring events in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia associated with farming resources tied to Crystal Strength. There are seven cycle quests: one for each crystal color (black, red, blue, green, yellow, and white), as well as a golden cactuar special event, which is tied to the farming of gil and experience rather than materials of a particular crystal color.
All cycle quests are currently available at all times in the global edition. The "cyclical" part of the name is a holdover from the way that these quests were initially presented, wherein one cycle quest would be available for freeplay each day, cycling for the same day each week (for instance, the Golden Cactuars cycle quest would be freely available for play on Sundays). Players wanting to play off-cycle events would use a cycle key, a moogle-themed key that was sometimes made available during special events or in compensation for unexpected site maintenance-related outages. Briefly these keys could also be purchased for 50 Dissidia points. With recent adjustments to the cycle quests these keys have since been deprecated.
Cycle quests uniquely have two types of enemies which, when killed, drop loot tied to the particular cycle quest's theme: movers and Cactuars. Cactuars are present in the first and third waves of the quest's enemy attack, with movers usually in the second wave. Rarely, a kactuar replaces the leftmost cactuar in the quest's final wave. Kactuars, distinguished from normal cactuars by a flower on top of their head, are significantly stronger than typical cactuars. When killed, the kactuar substantially increases the amount of loot, experience, and gil the player receives. The presence of a kactuar cannot be predicted prior to entering the third wave, but is accompanied by a change in battle music before it appears in the field.
