CursorIntroVII

The cursor explaining its presence to Cloud.

The cursor is an indicator used to show the position on all the menus in game. It usually appears as a closed, gloved hand pointing with the index finger to the right, however there are games which use simple arrow as cursor, like Final Fantasy X. It usually appears in the characters menu and in battles in order to introduce command and point to enemies and allies.

In Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, there are three types of cursors; a quill pen to point out locations in the World Map, a glowing bullet point, and a small sword.

Wind-up cursor1

In Final Fantasy XIV the player can get a Wind-up Cursor as a minion. The minion guide description mentions that the white glove is actually the "Hand of Fate" that controls the actions of the characters from a dimension beyond the aether, referring to the player.

The finger cursor was also used in other Square properties, such as Chrono Trigger, Rudora no Hihō, and 'Secret of Evermore. Romancing SaGa 2 and Romancing SaGa 3 features a gauntlet instead of a white glove, the gesture is the same as the one from the Final Fantasy series. The cursor also appears in the Kingdom Hearts series.
