Curse in Final Fantasy IV (Complete Collection).
Curse (呪い, Noroi?) is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series. It usually inflicts the status ailment of the same name, but occasionally inflicts other status ailments on the targets. Curse is often an enemy ability, but has made occasional appearances as a player attack.
Overview[]
Makes the enemy weak against some elemental property.
Final Fantasy IX description

Curse in Final Fantasy IX.
Curse often inflicts the status ailment of the same name in most titles, lowering a target's stats in some fashion, or lowering their resistances to enemy attacks. The attack is often used by undead enemies, with its most prominent user being Scarmiglione from Final Fantasy IV in most appearances.
As a player ability, Curse is prominently used by Amarant Coral from Final Fantasy IX as part of his Flair command set. This version also appears as a recurring attack for the character in some of his spin-off appearances.
While several titles have featured another Curse ability, it often counts as a magic skill. This is reflected in the Japanese names for both the recurring spell and the unique ability - the spell version uses the recurring katakana character naming structure, being known as (カーズ, Kāzu?) or (カース, Kāsu?); the ability version's name derives from the Japanese noun for a curse, spelled in either kanji or hiragana characters as (呪い, Noroi?).

Etymology[]
curse is any expressed wish that some form of adversity or misfortune will befall or attach to some other entity: one or more persons, a place, or an object. In particular, "curse" may refer to such a wish or pronouncement made effective by a supernatural or spiritual power, or else as a kind of spell by magic or witchcraft; in the latter sense, a curse can also be called a hex or a jinx.
