Makes the enemy weak against some elemental property.
Description
Curse is a Flair/Elan in Final Fantasy IX used by Amarant to make one (Flair) or all (Elan) enemies weak to a random element for a cost of 16 MP.
There exists an unrelated ability in Final Fantasy IX also called Curse, the damaging status affliction ability used by Ozma and Hades.
Obtained[]
Curse is learned for 40 AP from Mythril Claws or Kaiser Knuckles. The earliest it can be learned is from the Mythril Claws bought from Oeilvert and Desert Palace Mogshops.
Mechanics[]
Curse targets one enemy when used with Flair, and all enemies when used with Elan when Amarant is in Trance. It makes the enemy weak to a random element: Fire, Ice, Thunder, Wind, Water, Earth, Holy, or Shadow. It can be repeated to give the enemy/enemies multiple weaknesses.
Flying enemies do not become weak to Earth even if Curse states it has added this weakness. Ozma will not become weak to Shadow even if Curse adds it; its Shadow-resistance state depends on the friendly monsters quest completion.
Use[]
Curse makes the enemy weak to an element, allowing elemental attacks to do more damage, such as Amarant's own No Mercy with an elemental weapon, Vivi's Black Magic and Steiner's Sword Magic, and Dagger and Eiko's eidolons. It uses up Amarant's turn so his allies can deal more damage with their abilities. If the player has built Amarant around using Counter and/or Return Magic for damage, then using his turns on Curse will not be a problem. The downside is that the element chosen is random, but the player can keep using Curse until they get a desirable weakness.
