Restores HP.

Description

Cure is a White Magic spell in Final Fantasy V. It is the basic curative spell that can be used to restore HP to one target or an entire party. If used on the undead, it instead deals damage. Cure is usable by the White Magic and Red Magic skillsets (and can be used twice with Dualcast). Cure is also one of the spells that can be cast for free from the Wonder Wand.

Cure is also an enemy ability that can be used by Omniscient, Ricard Mage, and Siren.

Obtained[]

Cure can be purchased for 150 gil at Tule, Carwen, Karnak, or Jachol. Tule is the earliest place Cure can be obtained. Once it is purchased, it can be used by any of the skillsets with the spell.

Mechanics[]

As a spell, Cure's healing is calculated as follows:

If the target is undead, it is damaged instead of healed.

If multi-targeting, the Attack value in the above is halved.

Use[]

White Mages can use Cure early on as a basic healing spell. Early on, Cure will likely have a greater effect than using a Potion, but less than a Hi-Potion. Cure will improve as the caster's Level and Magic Power improve, but generally, the rate at which enemy's damage and party member's HP increase outpaces the rate Cure improves.

Cure is outclassed by Cura in terms of its healing effect, having three times the effect for just over twice the MP cost. As such, Cura is the better spell to use both in battle and on the field, making Cure effectively obsolete at this point. The player can simply forego using Cure unless they need to conserve MP.

If used as an offensive spell against undead enemies, Cure's damage is equal to that of Fire, Blizzard, or Thunder.
