Restore HP
Description
Cura is a restore magic spell in Final Fantasy VIII. It is the second level curative spell, above Cure and below Curaga, allowing it to be cast to replenish a target's HP, or junctioned to boost stats, namely HP.
When Magic Booster is used in the 2013 PC re-release, the player's inventory gains 100 Cura spells, among other basic spells.
Obtained
Cura is a relatively common spell drawn from many medium-level enemies and a wide variety of draw points. The Guardian Force Siren allows Cura magic to be refined from common items using L Mag-RF, and it can also be refined from Cure spells using Quezacotl's ability Mid Mag-RF.
At later levels, Curaga replaces Cura in its availability.
Stats
Use
Cura has a spell power of 36 when cast, meaning its restorative power is calculated as:
It is cast as a spell in the Magic command or Selphie's Slot Limit Break. In addition to curing characters, it can deal damage to undead enemies.
Casting Cura in battle increases compatibility with Carbuncle by 0.2, but lowers compatibility with Eden by 0.2 as well.
Cura is among the better spells to junction to HP-J, making it better to stock for junctioning to boost stats than it does to cast. However, around the time Cura becomes available, it is easy to obtain Curaga by refining Tents. This means that Cura can drop off in usefulness quickly.
Cura should later be refined into Curaga using High Mag-RF, which outclasses it.
Cura is used by the following enemies: Base Leader, Blobra, Blood Soul (uses it against zombified party members), and Elite Soldier. It can be reflected.
