  • Rivals Prudentia and Pulmia have been given the challenge of preparing thirty orders, each of them confident that she will best the other. Who will prove the victor? Speak with both to find out.
  • Your assistance has been requested in a culinary battle of seemingly epic proportions. Use the recipe provided to create the requested item, tout de suite.
  • Your assistance ultimately sways the outcome of the culinary battle. However, Prudentia seems shocked when the next big order falls to her rival, Pulmia, and promptly storms out of the restaurant via the rear exit. Perhaps you should speak with the downtrodden chef in an attempt to lift her spirits.

Mystery of the Gastronome Gone Home[]

Journal[]

  • According to Charlys, Prudentia is (once again) low in spirits, and (once again) it seems to concern her cooking. Find the crestfallen culinarian and listen to her sad, sad tale.
  • You find Prudentia sulking over her work in the restaurant. It seems the cause of her woes stems from the sudden disappearance of one of her customers. Report what you learned to Charlys and see if he has any advice on what to do next.
  • Charlys believes the customer in question is none other than a merchant hailing from the Weavers' Guild of Ul'dah, and suggests that you travel to Sunsilk Tapestries and learn why he stopped frequenting the restaurant.
  • You learn of the merchant's whereabouts from Sunsilk Tapestries receptionist Deaustie. Now speak with the Lalafellin trader to see if you cannot solve the mystery.
  • It does not seem the merchant will part with his secrets so easily. See if there is not some way to persuade him.
  • Your parley with the tiny tradesman was a success! Speak to the merchant again to learn what he knows.
  • The merchant revealed to you why he stopped frequenting the Bismarck. The reason, however, was not what you expected. It seems that he was insulted upon learning Prudentia's famous stew is not only popular among her normal patrons, but also among rat-like creatures known as Qiqirn. He went as far as saying that unless the chef is released from the restaurant's employ, the Bismarck's name would be besmirched for good. Return to Charlys in Limsa Lominsa and report your findings right away.
  • You report your findings to Charlys, only to find that the problem with the Qiqirn is more complex than you expected, and that he will speak with the guildmaster about what steps the restaurant will take to better serve their more sensitive customers. He also mentioned Qiqirn scurrying about in the alley behind the Bismarck looking for scraps. Perhaps you should investigate.
  • Upon arriving in the alley, who do you find but Prudentia and a party of Qiqirn greedily slurping down bowl after bowl of her mushroom soup. Upon further investigation, you learn that Prudentia enjoys feeding the rat-like beastmen on account of the fact they seem to appreciate her cooking more than her "normal" customers. Return to Charlys and let him know that Prudentia's spirits have finally lifted and the mercurial chef will soon be back at her spot in the kitchens.

Something in the Soup[]

Journal[]

  • While speaking with Prudentia, Pulmia's suitor enters the kitchens in search of his love. Upon seeing this, however, Prudentia's mood suddenly sours. Perhaps a quick foray into Prudentia's past via the Echo will help shed some light on the situation.
  • A peek into Prudentia's past reveals that a handsome young man named Lienart might have something to do with the chef's current feelings. When you try asking her about him, however, she simply tells you that she would like to be alone.
  • As suddenly and as violently as a summer squall, Prudentia storms out of the Bismarck. After a word with Charlys, you learn that this may be due to the fact Prudentia's fiancé dropped in the restaurant earlier. Her former fiancé.
  • As always, Charlys asks you to find the woebegone chef and cheer her up. He believes she may be somewhere in the city with a clear view of the bay.
  • You find Prudentia at a place sailors call the "bethel"—a shrine to the Navigator overlooking Galadion Bay. There, she tells you, is where she first met the love of her life...but is unwilling to divulge any more. Luckily, the gods have granted you with the gift of the Echo.
  • Using the Echo, you learn that Prudentia poisoned the soup Pulmia made for her suitor. Luckily, Prudentia has come to her senses and resolved to find her best friend and stop her before she and Lienart can consume the meal. Just in case she cannot make it in time, however, she would have you create a delicacy known as a devilbelly meatball to neutralize the poison. The recipe consists of two devilshrooms and one foulbelly meatball. As to how to make foulbelly meatball...
  • You learn the recipe for foulbelly meatball from one of your fellow chefs at the Bismarck. It consists of a piece of queer-smelling meat and a pinch of sweet-smelling spice, mixed with a single button mushroom. Speak to the guild's other culinarians to procure the ingredients you need.
  • Your devilbelly meatball is ready for the final test. Hurry and find Prudentia somewhere near the Bismarck...before it is too late!
  • Prudentia has run off in pursuit of Pulmia. Follow her!
  • You reach Pulmia and her sweetheart just in time to witness a young, dark-haired maiden confess her undying love to Lienart...and learn that the maiden, not the man, was Prudentia's betrothed! Speak with Charlys to try and sort things out.
