A finely honed greatsword hewn from an enormous gemstone.

Description

The crystal sword is a weapon for Cloud in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It starts with two materia slots, and teaches Cloud the Infinity's End ability, which costs two ATB charges but deals immense damage to a staggered enemy. The weapon's attributes and weapon skills gear Cloud toward magic damage output.

Use[]

The crystal sword builds Cloud toward magic damage. It has the second-highest Magic Attack Magic Attack of Cloud's weapons, but while it has the second-lowest Attack Power Attack Power of his weapons, it still has a passable attack power boost. Couple this with its weapon skills that boost critical hit damage and rates, the crystal sword is excellent for boosting Cloud's magic damage output but can still give him a respectable physical damage output if needed against opponents. Early on, the crystal sword is hindered by low starting materia slots, but this improves in later weapon levels.

This is in contrast to the Rune Blade Rune Blade, which has a larger magic attack boost but lower attack power boost, and has many boosts to Cloud's MP regeneration. Slipstream Saber Slipstream Saber similarly has boosts to MP regeneration, but has slightly more balanced stats than both, if tilted toward magic damage. Given Cloud's natural MP and magic stats, and his Blade Burst ability, it can be viable to build Cloud toward magic damage with either crystal sword, rune blade, or slipstream saber. However, Cloud's other abilities all rely on his physical damage, meaning that specializing him so heavily with the rune blade can cause him to miss out on some of this potential.

The crystal sword is a great choice for those wishing to specialize Cloud in magic damage, but with less of a sacrifice to his physical damage. Other weapons for Cloud, such as Buster Sword Buster Sword or Umbral Blade Umbral Blade, are more balanced options that still succeed in helping Cloud's magic damage, but while providing good physical damage attributes, for players who want Cloud as a mage but do not want him to specialize.
