The Crystal M-phone (also known as the Crystal M-Phone[1]) is a weapon for Cait Sith in Final Fantasy VII. It is available at Mideel, and has stats on-par with weapons available for other characters from there. It has six Materia slots, all of them linked.

As with other Cait Sith weapons, the Crystal M-phone itself does not strike an enemy, but commands his Mog, meaning Cait Sith's damage is still Hit rather than Shout. However, its Attack stat still counts towards damage dealt.

Obtained[]

The Crystal M-phone is purchased for 18,000 gil from Mideel.

Mechanics[]

As the Crystal M-phone has a base Attack stat bonus of 74, the base damage for physical attacks when the Crystal M-phone equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Cait Sith's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Crystal M-phone also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 100%, and grants a +20 bonus to Cait Sith's Magic stat.

The Crystal M-phone is available for Cait Sith upon reaching Mideel. At this stage, as the player has the Highwind, there are other weapons the player may consider preferable for Cait Sith, namely the Gold M-phone. However, the Crystal M-phone is still a well-rounded weapon for Cait Sith that is broadly useful.

The Crystal M-phone has six linked Materia slots. Cait Sith has one of the best Magic stats in the game, and his physical damage is fairly unreliable, meaning that he is best played as a spellcaster. As such, these slots should be used for Magic and Summon Materia, and should be paired with Support Materia. Cait Sith can also equip Independent Materia that boost his ability, or Enemy Skill Materia (which can also benefit from Cait Sith's Magic stat), though some of those can be given to armor so the linked slots are not wasted.

The Crystal M-phone outclasses all of Cait Sith's previously available weapons. However, the Gold M-phone has two extra Materia slots of which all are linked, and has a slightly higher Magic boost. Crystal M-phone has a higher Attack stat, but because Cait Sith is best played around his spellcasting ability, it is best to skip it in favor of the Gold M-phone. Upon reaching the Junon Underwater Dock, the Battle Trumpet surpasses the Crystal M-phone in terms of its Attack stat, but has no AP growth. The Starlight Phone and HP Shout when acquired later on completely surpass the Crystal M-phone at its role.
