The Crystal Comb is a weapon for Red XIII in Final Fantasy VII. It is has six Materia slots, all of which are linked. The weapon has mid-level stats on par with weapons available for other characters at the time.
Like all Red XIII's weapons, Crystal Comb is not rendered or visible in-game, and also cannot be thrown.
Obtained[]
The Crystal Comb can be purchased for 17,000 gil from Mideel.
Mechanics[]
As the Crystal Comb has a base Attack stat bonus of 76, the base damage for physical attacks when the Crystal Comb is equipped is in the following formula:
where "Level" is Red XIII's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Crystal Comb also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 108%, and grants a +20 bonus to Red XIII's Magic stat.
Use[]
The Crystal Comb has stats on-par with other weapons available at Mideel. It is an upgrade over the Adaman Clip, and all other weapons previously available for Red XIII, including the Seraph Comb, in terms of pure stats and Materia slots. This makes it a worthwhile purchase for players using Red XIII.
The Crystal Comb has six linked Materia slots. Red XIII's own stats, as well as the strong Magic boost by the weapon, make him one of the best mages alongside Cloud and Cait Sith. Red XIII should therefore equip Magic or Summon Materia, and make use of the ability to pair Support Materia on any slot. It is best to take advantage of this if the Support Materia are available, while giving slots on armor to Independent Materia to improve Red XIII's stats, or for spare Command Materia.
The Crystal Comb outclasses all of Red XIII's previously available weapons, and up until the Spring Gun Clip, is the best weapon overall in terms of stats and slots. Though the Centclip provides more Materia slots and is cheaper, none of them are linked, making the Crystal Comb better overall. Additionally, while the Behemoth Horn has better stats, its slots are unlinked, making the choice depend on how important Support Materia are for Red XIII.
