Crescent Unit is an organization in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. It is the elite fighting force of Wutai. According to the Crisis Core Complete Guide[1], Crescent Unit is said to appease the wrath of Leviathan and smite the enemies of Wutai; it is skilled not only in combat, but also in espionage. Like other Wutai soldiers, Crescent Unit soldiers are armed with gun-lances.

The privates in Crescent Unit wear uniforms with a gray base and trousers embroidered with a chakram; commanders wear uniforms with a black base and trousers embroidered with a dragon. They also wear a mask. It is a custom for each member of Crescent Unit to be given a name related to the moon. The Five Saints of Wutai also belong to Crescent Unit, and after the end of the Wutai war, they gather together the remnants of the Wutai army. Etymology[]

In art and symbolism, a crescent is the shape produced when a circular disk has a segment of another circle removed from its edge so that what remains is a shape enclosed by two circular arcs of different diameters which intersect at two points (usually in such a manner that the enclosed shape does not include the center of the original circle). In astronomy, a crescent is the shape of the lit side of a spherical body (most notably the Moon) that appears to be less than half illuminated by the Sun as seen by the viewer.

The word crescent is derived from the present participle of the Latin verb crescere, "to grow", and was originally applied to the form of the waxing moon.

Engetsu Corps in Japanese, Engetsurin means chakram, and it has appeared in past Final Fantasy games as a weapon or item (named Razor Ring, Pinwheel, Moonring, etc. in the English versions).
