For the location from Final Fantasy VI, see Crescent Island.

Crescent is a village in Final Fantasy V located on a small island. It is located above Ronka Ruins, which are powered by the Earth Crystal, and as such, its soil is always fertile, even when not cared for.

To the west of the village lies a doorway to a new airship, which is later covered by a tower the party must traverse to reach the doorway again. To the south lies the black chocobo's forest and to the south-west lies the Phantom Village.

Fire-Powered Ship Sinking

The Fire-Powered Ship sinking.

The party first reaches the island aboard the Fire-Powered Ship, but upon reaching the town of Crescent, the ship is swallowed by a whirlpool caused by an earthquake. They head to the Chocobo forest nearby, since there have been sightings of a rare black chocobo there. After finding the chocobo, Bartz tries to ride it, only to find he can't fly. After searching for the reason, the Warriors of Light find two Crystal shards from the Fire Crystal, which hold the jobs of Bard and Ranger.

Later, the party finds that Crescent actually lies above the Ronkan Catapult. When the Earth Crystal is destroyed, the soil of the village begins to degrade and slowly become infertile due to the lack of energy in the ground.

Spoilers end here.

Songs

The party leader can play a piano at the bard's house. This is the fifth piano the player is likely to encounter, and if the player played all the previous ones, the party leader will play an excerpt from Schubert's "Marche Militaire No. 1".

The party can acquire Sinewy Etude song for the Bard's Sing skillset from the bard in Crescent when visiting him in the Merged World. They can also acquire the Mighty March from the minster's house.

Playing all the pianos in the world acquires the last song, Hero's Rime, after showing the newfound pianist skills to the bard.

Etymology

The name refers to the shape of the island. In art and symbolism, a crescent is the shape produced when a circular disk has a segment of another circle removed from its edge so that what remains is a shape enclosed by two circular arcs of different diameters which intersect at two points (usually in such a manner that the enclosed shape does not include the center of the original circle). In astronomy, a crescent is the shape of the lit side of a spherical body (most notably the Moon) that appears to be less than half illuminated by the Sun as seen by the viewer.

The word crescent is derived from the present participle of the Latin verb crescere, "to grow", and was originally applied to the form of the waxing moon.
