Crawler is a genus of enemies in Final Fantasy XI.

While being infamous as a pest who devours crops and scares livestock, the crawler is nonetheless valued—or at least appreciated—for the silk it produces. While not usually aggressive, crawlers have been known to attack people who wander into their lair.

Etymology[]

The Crawler is one of the many enemies in the original Final Fantasy that were based on monsters from the Dungeons & Dragons series. Crawler is based on the Carrion Crawler, a monster that in Dungeons & Dragons was capable of paralyzing its prey.
