The Crawler, also known as the CRAWL , is an enemy in Final Fantasy. It can be found exclusively within the Marsh Cave, where it can be encountered alongside the Bloodbones or the Skeleton. It is one of several enemies in the dungeon capable of inflicting Paralysis with its attacks, with its potential 8 attacks per round granting it a significantly higher chance of inflicting the condition than any other enemy.

The Crawler has a low Attack stat, but its attacks have a high chance of causing Paralysis, and it gets a staggering number of hits—it can easily hit eight times in one attack action. This makes the Crawler a particular menace among enemies found in the Marsh Cave, as their paralyzing attacks can easily put party members out of commission, and they are resilient enough relative to the party's likely capabilities that taking them out swiftly to minimize party member paralysis may prove a challenging endeavor.

Etymology[]
The Crawler is one of the many enemies in the original Final Fantasy that were based on monsters from the Dungeons & Dragons series. Crawler is based on the Carrion Crawler, a monster that in Dungeons & Dragons was capable of paralyzing its prey.
