The Crawler, also known as the CRAWL in the Nintendo Entertainment System version, is an enemy in the original Final Fantasy.

Stats[edit | edit source]

Battle[edit | edit source]

Crawler is fairly rare, appearing only in big groups alongside other similar monsters in the Marsh Cave. They can only be found in Basements One and Two, and the pursuit for them may be something of an annoyance for players who want to complete the Bestiary in the Advance and Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary versions.

It has a low Attack stat, but its attacks have a high chance of causing Paralysis and it gets a staggering number of attacks—it can easily hit upwards of eight times in one attack action. This makes them a particular menace in "classic" versions of the game, due to the more limited healing options available and the tendency of multiple Crawlers to shut down the player's offense and ability to kill them quickly.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The Crawler is one of the many enemies in the original Final Fantasy that were based on monsters from the Dungeons & Dragons series. Crawler is based on the Carrion Crawler, a monster that in Dungeons & Dragons was capable of paralyzing its prey.
