Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry

The Covert is an enemy in Final Fantasy VI.

Stats[]

Battle[]

It is highly dangerous, as it counters most attacks by throwing a Shuriken at the attacker. For its normal attacks it throws Fire Scrolls, Water Scrolls, and Lightning Scrolls, and uses Wind Slash, all of which cause massive damage to the entire party. When they are defeated, they sometimes use Disappear to grant Invisible Invisible to one of their allies. The party cannot flee if they are present in most versions; however, fleeing is possible in Pixel Remaster. This overall makes them highly dangerous enemies and the player is advised to dispatch them as quickly as possible.

Strategy[]

Sleep and Stop can be used to get a breather, then Holy Holy-elemental weapons work well to hit their elemental weakness.

Coliseum setup[]

The Covert's ability to make itself invisible is quite dangerous given the frequency at which characters use the Attack command in the coliseum. On the upside, it provides a good opportunity to use Kazekiri, since it can hit invisible targets.

Terra makes a good choice with Paladin's Shield, Genji Helm, Genji Armor, Merit Award, and Miracle Shoes. This setup gives her very good Defense and Magic Defense to minimize damage from its normal attacks, Leaf Swirl and Wind Slash; Miracle Shoes will help with regen, and Trance will double her stats.

Mog given the same equipment setup as Terra—except with a Snow Scarf replacing the Genji Armor - is another option for this fight. Although Kazekiri is still a good choice, Holy Lance might be better since Covert is weak to Holy. This choice is only as important as the amount of time that passes before Mog eventually picks a Dance. With a Holy Lance, the White Cape will replace Merit Award nicely.

While Terra is not 100% reliable because of her Magic command, Mog's main disadvantage lies in the Twilight Requiem dance, which does not work very well against Covert. This is offset by the other dances, which work very well in comparison.
