Don Corneo's henchmen. Some are former troopers, others common thugs hired off the street. They all have a favorite weapon they reach for when things get rough, and are always ready for a fight.

Don Corneo's underlings on the hunt for the most beautiful women in the undercity. They are always ready for a fight, and all have their own weapon of choice.

Enemy Intel in "Episode INTERmission"

Corneo Lackey is an enemy in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission". Aerith and Tifa fight them inside Don Corneo's manor in Chapter 9, "The Town That Never Sleeps", in the audition segment. They also appear in the Corneo Colosseum round 'Two-Person Team vs. Slum Outlaws'. In INTERmission, Yuffie and Sonon fight Corneo Lackeys in "Wutai's Finest" as part of the main quest.

There are four enemy models for the lackeys, but only one of them is displayed in the Enemy Intel. The lackeys are different between the base game and INTERmission; in the latter, the lackeys' leader is the man who was called Hoodlum in the base game (when the player fought the Hoodlums in the base game, Cloud did not yet know their affiliation).

Battle[]

The Corneo Lackeys are, essentially, more powerful versions of the Hoodlums, being slightly more durable. Much like their counterparts, they fight in groups and can pose a threat in high numbers due to their versatility and tendency to surround the player. They mainly use physical attacks, wielding knives, while others are equipped with submachine guns. Both types of Corneo Lackeys can throw grenades, spiderwebs, and orbs of gravity. If left unchecked, the player will be overwhelmed by a barrage of different attacks. They can also use Full Nelson, binding the player temporarily; this move is often used from behind.

The knife-wielding lackeys are more agile and will attempt to approach the player head-on, using kicks and knife attacks, while the gun-wielding lackeys will stay at a distance and open fire. They often coordinate attacks to constantly pressure the player and leave little room for reaction, as well lob potions and hi-potions on each other.

Once they lose about half their HP, they'll attempt to buff themselves to a state where they no longer build stagger; when buffed, they sparkle with an orange visual effect, and all their moves will deal increased damage, as well have a higher interrupt power. Once they start drinking the concoction, it is very hard to interrupt them.

Much like most of the human enemies, Corneo Lackeys are weak to Fire Fire.

Strategy[]

Ideally, the player should not allow the lackeys to surround the controlled character to prevent flanking and being hit by multiple attacks, specially since they are more powerful and aggressive than the regular Hoodlums. The most effective way to dispose of the lackeys is to focus on one at a time to prevent them from drinking their concoctions in succession. Triple Slash works well to quickly knock them down and give the player more breathing room.

Much like the Hoodlums, the Corneo Lackeys have minimal Magic Defense Magic Defense, meaning that Fire Fire or Fira Fira will instantly pressure them and greatly raise the stagger gauge. The player can then follow up with Focused Thrust, followed by Braver, to dispose of them. Since most of their attacks can be blocked, Steadfast Block Materia Steadfast Block Materia helps mitigate damage, as well build ATB quicker.

If they start drinking their concoction, the player should cast Fire to interrupt them.

In INTERmission, Yuffie's Fire Ninjutsu (when synergized, Sonon also does fire ninjutsu) and Fiery Banishment work well, as does Windstorm for the group of them. Yuffie can mug bottles of adrenaline from them. Defeating them earns a chthonian armlet, one of the best armor pieces in the DLC.

Hard Mode[]

On the hard difficulty, the Corneo Lackeys are more aggressive, using their abilities more often, specially grenade and Full Nelson. They'll be even more powerful under the effects of their enhancing drug.

The player can link Magnify Materia Magnify Materia with Fire Materia Fire Materia to hit them all at once. Elemental Materia Elemental Materia paired with Fire in Cloud's weapon is also effective, specially when using Triple Slash.
