Corel is Barret's hometown in Final Fantasy VII. Barret feels responsible for its destruction since he strongly supported building a Mako Reactor for the town. Shin-Ra troops razed the village after an alleged terrorist attack on the reactor facility. Subsequently, Corel became the Desert Prison, and the Gold Saucer was built above it.
