Confusion is a status in Final Fantasy VII. The afflicted player character loses control and randomly attacks allies, but carries out the last command the player input; if possible, it will always be against the player party. Confused enemies continue to use their AI script, but with the definition of allies and enemies reversed.

Use[]
Confusion is widely not a useful status, as many enemies in the game are immune to it, and those that are affected are easy to defeat without the need for Confusion. If the player wants to use Confusion, they can use it to get the enemy to attack its own side, potentially using powerful abilities to defeat the enemies for the player.
By confusing their own party members, the player can inflict Sadness and Fury onto enemies via the Tranquilizer and Hyper items, respectively. Fury can be useful, as it decreases the enemy's hit%, which cannot be done with Darkness due to the way that status is programmed. Sadness is not useful to inflict onto enemies, however.
Confusion is hazardous when enemies inflict it on the player's party. If the player has leveled up Elemental to Lv2 they can exploit the Hidden element of the Dorky Faces' Curses and Funny Breath attacks by linking Elemental with any non-elemental Materia on the party's armor to protect against these attacks. Players do not gain an immunity to the statuses used; instead, the chance of inflicting the Status is dropped to 0, and the word "Miss" will always appear above their head, indicating that they are still vulnerable. A level 1 Elemental would halve the chances of the abilities inflicting their statuses, as opposed to nullifying them.
