Confuse is a status in Final Fantasy. It is primarily associated with the Spirit element. Confuse is exclusive to player characters, as no enemies have the means of inflicting the status.

Content in italics is exclusive to the Dawn of Souls and/or 20th Anniversary releases.

Mechanics[]

Confuse forces the target to attack itself or its allies at random on its turn. In the NES release, it casts Fire instead of using a normal attack, regardless whether or not the target actually knows the spell.

Targets afflicted with Confuse have a 25% chance of recovering at the end of each round, and recover automatically at the end of battle. Unlike Sleep, the target's stats have no effect on their recovery rate, making it a more effective means of incapacitating a target for most of the game.

As with other statuses, it is only possible to be immune to the Confuse condition in the Pixel Remaster release; in prior releases, the most one can do is resist the element of an attack that inflicts the status, reducing its accuracy. Even if a target is listed as resisting Confusion, this is in reference to the element, rather than effects that can inflict Confuse.
