Confuse is a status in Final Fantasy XII. Confused units randomly target members of their own party until cured or the status wears off. It is a hazardous ailment to contract as it will override any gambits and quickly ruin the player's strategy. In the Zodiac versions, the player can get a weapon, Karkata, that always inflicts Confuse to enemies that are not outright immune.
Mechanics[]
Confused party members cannot act as a party leader or perform Quickenings or respond to the Flee command. If an enemy kills itself with confusion, it will not drop any items or give EXP or LP.
The formula for the duration is:
Berserked units are immune to Confuse.
Confusion is removed by being attacked physically. If equipped to enable counter-attacks, the counter will not trigger, even if the status is removed. An easy way to sober up confused allies is to hit them with a measure, also giving them a positive effect in the process.
There exists a glitch where if an Etém is afflicted with both Disable and Confuse, it will continuously teleport without pause. They cannot be killed, cannot be dispelled, and the status effects will not wear out, as they are paused while the enemy is teleporting.
Abilities[]
| Spell | Confuse (Arcane [OG] / White Magicks [Zodiac]) |
|---|---|
| Technick | Charm[note 1] |
| Weapons | Chaos Mace 15%, Karkata 100% |
The Confuse spell is Arcane Magick in the original PlayStation 2 version, and White Magick in the Zodiac versions. It can be made to always succeed against vulnerable targets when the caster equips the Indigo Pendant.
The player can also inflict Confuse with items usually used to cure it with the Nihopalaoa equipped.
The ally-targeting gambit specifically for this status is called "Ally: status = Confuse". In all versions, the gambit can be bought at gambit shops after leaving Nalbina Dungeons. The enemy-targeting gambit is "Foe: status = Confuse", in the original available to buy only after the events at Draklor Laboratory, whereas in the Zodiac versions all gambits are available as soon as the gambit shops open. In the original game, the gambits cost 50 gil, and 70 gil in the Zodiac versions.
Enemy abilities[]
Traps[]
The Befuddling Gas traps inflict those who trigger them with Confuse (and Berserk, though Confuse and Berserk are not usually meant to coexist on the same target). Befuddling Gas traps are found in Lhusu Mines, Henne Mines, Stilshrine of Miriam, Sochen Cave Palace, Cerobi Steppe, Feywood, and Ridorana Cataract.
