Confuse is a status in Final Fantasy V, also known as Muddle in the PlayStation version. Confuse status turns the afflicted against their allies, and a confused party member with White/Black/Red Magic can attempt to cast a random spell on the wrong party: damaging spells against allies and support spells on the enemies. Confused characters cannot evade attacks or use Cover or counterattack. Confuse cannot coexist with berserk on the same target.

Confused enemies will attempt to use an ability from their Controlled ability list.

Confuse is removed with most physical attacks; the Samurai's Mineuchi command can be used to substitute for the regular Fight command, but it does not remove the confusion status from the target. Magic damage does not remove confusion.

In all versions besides the discontinued 2013 version, confuse status resets the unit's ATB. Those afflicted with confuse face the opposite way and have a green swirl above their head.
