Causes confusion.
Description
Confuse, also known as Muddle, is a White Magic spell in Final Fantasy V that inflicts the confuse effect on one target. It is usable by the White Magic and Red Magic skillsets (and can be used twice with Dualcast). Confuse is also one of the spells that can be cast for free from the Wonder Wand.
Confuse is also an enemy ability that can be used by Apanda, Byblos, Carbuncle, Black Warlock, Imp, Omniscient, Sorcerer, Tiny Mage, and Wendigo.
Obtained[]
Confuse can be purchased for 300 gil at Karnak or Jachol. Karnak is the earliest place Confuse can be acquired.
Confuse can also be used by catching and releasing a Mindflusher, Mini Satana, or the Imp at either Great Forest of Moore or Exdeath's Castle.
Mechanics[]
When cast, Confuse's chance to hit is as follows:
If the target has shell, the Spell Hit% is halved. If the target is a toad, its Evade % is reduced to 0.
The game generates two random numbers between 0 and 99.
- If N1 >= Hit%, the spell misses
- If N2 < Evade%, the spell misses
Confuse can be reflected.
Use[]
If applied, Confuse is a crippling status to an enemy. It will cause them to randomly use an ability on their controlled ability list on their turn, until they are interrupted by an attack from the player party. This can greatly limit the enemy as a threat. It can also be an effective way to learn Blue Magic spells.
Confuse's relatively low MP cost makes it a good way to possibly reduce the threat of an enemy. However, other spells that inflict negative statuses, such as Stop, Toad, and Sleep can be more crippling to an enemy.
Aside from the Confuse spell, the status can also be inflicted with the Lamia Kiss and Dark Sigh mixes.
