These spells deal immense non-elemental magic damage spread across multiple comet hits, but have a lengthy cast time and a steep MP cost. Though they are the strongest in the game in terms of damage output, they must be used carefully, or the materia must be paired with the correct
Support Materia.

Use[]
Comet materia grants two tiers of comet spells. These spells deal great non-elemental damage spread across multiple meteorites over an area, meaning they have both strong area-of-effect and strong damage output. The downside is their lengthy cast time, making them risky to use, and their high MP cost, making them costly to cast often.
Comet materia is best used when paired with the right Support Materia to alleviate its issues. A key pairing is
Synergy Materia, which allows the paired user to frequently cast Comet with no MP or ATB cost, meaning the only drawback is its cast time.
Swiftcast Materia is another key pairing to eliminate the cast time issue and make it safer to cast regularly.
Beyond this, the usual HP Absorption Materia or
MP Absorption Materia can improve a party member's sustainability,
Magic Efficiency Materia allows it to be cast more regularly, and
Level Boost Materia unlocks Cometeor before the materia is fully leveled.
Auto-Cast Materia is available but risky to use due to high MP cost, and
Magnify Materia is fairly redundant as the spell already has a large area of effect.
