The Coeurl, also known as BlackCat, is an enemy from Final Fantasy IV. It counters more with its signature attack, Blaster. Thus killing off any other enemies it may come with is a better idea.

The Complete Collection sprite of this monster resembles the Cait Sith from the iOS/Android version of Final Fantasy II.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The coeurl is a fictional alien race created by science-fiction writer A. E. van Vogt. Coeurls also appear in other fantastical environments, such as in Dungeons & Dragons (as "Displacer Beasts"). Coeurls are generally described to be feline with longer forelimbs and tentacles.

It has also been known as BlackCat. The folklore surrounding black cats varies from culture to culture. In Great Britain and Japan black cats are seen as lucky, but in Western history, black cats have often been looked upon as a symbol of evil omens, specifically being suspected of being the familiars of witches, and so most of western and southern Europe considers the black cat a symbol of bad luck, especially if one crosses paths with a person, which is believed to be an omen of misfortune and death.
