...these predatory quadrupeds are unrivaled in their savagery. A coeurl subdues its prey by unleashing electrical shocks from the two whip-like appendages that frame its fang-lined jaws.
Excerpt from the Coeurl's Triple Triad card description in Final Fantasy XIV
The Coeurl (クァール, Kāru?; クアール, Kuāru?; or クアールキャット, Kuārukyatto?, lit. Coeurl Cat), also known as the Cuahl, Cuar, Torama, BlackCat, Wild Cat, or Coeurl Cat is a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy II. Its appearance typically resembles that of a leopard often with large, almost tentacle-like whiskers. Its signature ability is Blaster, which can inflict debilitating status effects such as paralysis, petrification, stop, or even instant death. It can also cast a variety of magic, and is associated with the lightning element.
The Coeurl has on occasion been localized as the Torama トラマ, Torama? , though recent installments in the series have begun featuring the Torama as a distinct variety of Coeurl rather than an alternate localization for the creature. Other recurring varieties of Coeurl include the Bandercoeurl and the Cait Sith.
