Name Origin
A cobra is a venomous snake from the family Elapidae native to the desert regions of Asia and Africa. Cobras are most easily recognized by the flap of skin that surrounds their heads in a hood-like shape.
In the original NES release of Final Fantasy, the Cobra was named the Asp. Asp is an archaic term used to describe poisonous snakes found in Egypt around the Nile River delta, most likely describing the Egyptian Cobra.
