Appears when the balance of light and darkness is disrupted, and returns everything to the Void. It appeared after Xande created a flood of darkness. The Cloud of Darkness is sealed away when the Warriors of the Darkness sacrifice themselves to aid the Warriors of Light in the final battle.
Description
The Cloud of Darkness is a playable character and boss in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia who can be recruited at the end of Act 2, Chapter 9 of the main storyline.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Cloud of Darkness's default outfit is an updated version of its original design by Yoshitaka Amano, but with slight modifications in their chest portion of the main body possibly due to rating system issues.
Their first alternate costume is "Lucent Robe", a revamped version of Cloud of Darkness's second alternate costume from Dissidia 012 that was introduced in Dissidia NT.
Personality[]
As in their original role as well as their Dissidia universe appearance, the Cloud of Darkness is nihilistic and will employ any means necessary to achieve their end, including manipulating others in order to push the world to the brink of disaster so that they may gain strength to bring about the Void. They possess no allegiance to either of the gods and seek only to destroy. The Onion Knight is seemingly the only warrior aware of their true nature.
As three beings of one consciousness, the Cloud of Darkness always speaks of themselves in the first-person plural.
Gender[]
The Cloud of Darkness's gender—or lack of it—has been portrayed inconsistently throughout the Dissidia series, attributed to different scenario writers for each game. While Final Fantasy III refers to them as genderless and merely choosing a feminine appearance, Opera Omnia dialogue refers to the entity with feminine pronouns. The Character Guide biography does not assert a gender, but player characters from other worlds are more likely to refer to the Cloud of Darkness as female than the three other representatives of Final Fantasy III. The Cloud of Darkness will always refer to themselves in the plural regardless of context.
Story[]
Act 1, Ch. 7: Imber Manor[]
The Cloud of Darkness first appears in Imber Manor alongside Kefka. They are neither seen nor mentioned until much later in the game.
Act 2, Ch. 9: Light of the Living[]
The Cloud of Darkness returns to give Ace the brilliance of his dark manikin, reminding him of his tragic fate back in his world. They go as far as mentioning his Mother, Dr. Arecia Al-Rashia, to manipulate him so he could cause a flood of darkness to return the world back to nothingness.
Under their guidance, Ace recreates a replica of the war-ravaged Orience to put himself at ease, using the dark manikins of his fellow cadets as pawns in a greater scheme. All the while, his mind is slowly poisoned by the Cloud of Darkness's machinations, turning him against his Light World allies so that a battle with him would allow the Cloud of Darkness to manifest and carry out their malicious agenda. Ace is defeated and returns to sense, leaving the entity themselves to engage the party. After their defeat in a brutal battle, they leave their dimensional coordinates behind. The Onion Knight objects vehemently to taking them, but Mog accepts them.

- Excluding Kefka's attempt at battling the party in his God of All Magic form, the final battles of Act 3 mirror point-for-point the climax of Final Fantasy III
- The player fights an unwinnable battle to start this segment of the story; all are laid low by the entity.
- Four of Spiritus's warriors with honorable demeanor intervene to assist Materia's group, paralleling the Warriors of Darkness as well as the curse of the five wyrms.
- The story takes place in a mock-up of the World of Darkness.
- The player is required to fight four battles against Spiritus's more corrupt warriors, with one each at the four gates of this World of Darkness, to weaken the Cloud of Darkness enough to reach them.

- In a nod to the original Final Fantasy VII and Cloud's battle with a bare-chested Sephiroth, the player will fight a scripted battle in which the Onion Knight must use his FR ability to expel the Cloud of Darkness, regardless of whether they have obtained the required weapon to use the FR ability.
