The Clockwork Dreadnaughts are recurring bosses from Final Fantasy XIV. Their models are the same as the Dreadnoughts from Final Fantasy XIII. Three of them appear in the The Binding Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4 as the most powerful enemies in the waves attack the party. One also appears as the boss of the FATE "Lightning Strikes - Dread on Arrival" in the Whitebrim area of the Coerthas Central Highlands during the Lightning Strikes event. They are also summoned as minions of The Avatar in the The Second Coil of Bahamut - Turn 3.

Clockwork Dreadnaughts are also the basis of their own family of enemies, found throughout other various Allagan facilities.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Dreadnoughts were a type of battleship popular in the first half of the 20th century before the advent of the aircraft carrier made them obsolete. They were gigantic heavily armored ships noted for an "all-big-gun" design that allowed for great firing range while being well-protected. The term "dreadnought" comes from the first major ship of this design, the 1906 HMS Dreadnought. The word means "fear nothing".
