Intersecting Wills: A Bouquet of Thoughts and Feelings[]

When Aerith silently rues that Noctis and Lunafreya never had the chance to experience the sylleblossoms of Tenebrae together in their world, she strikes of on her own to try to find sylleblossoms for them. However, Aerith is stopped by the Turks - Reno, Rude, and Cissnei - who insist that she not leave the airship unaccompanied. Aerith accepts Cissnei and Rude, but insists that Reno does not join them, on account of how he has ruined her blossoms carelessly in the past. Reno demurs, instructing Cissnei and Reno to watch over her while doing their best to stay out of her way.

As they continue their search, seemingly in vain, Cissnei suggests to Aerith that the blossoms may only appear in Eos and not in the world of respite. However, Aerith reminds her that in the world of respite, anything one believes becomes possible. Aerith manages to find and then collect a bouquet of sylleblossoms in short order, much to Cissnei’s surprise; when Cissnei asks Aerith whether she knows this because she is a Cetra, Aerith responds in frustration, noting that the turn of events had little to do with arcane knowledge of the Ancients and more to do with bearing a strong will. The group returns in short order to Noctis and Luna, who are delighted by the gift. When Reno catches up with the other Turks who witness the reunion, Cissnei tells him of Aerith’s remarkable kindness and selflessness.

The disciplinary committee arrives in short order to talk to Aerith, chasing the scent of flowers. She presents another bouquet of yellow flowers to a delighted Fujin, and Raijin compliments her for making the world a brighter place. In that same vein, Seifer compares Aerith to Squall, much to her surprise; he explains that Squall sees the true purpose of SeeD as sowing seeds everywhere, that his world may – as Aerith also desires in her own – be filled with flowers. Cissnei and Rude, who were eavesdropping, arrive and suggest to her that she should offer some flowers to Squall next. Cissnei and Rude accompany Aerith as she approaches Squall, Rinoa, and Firion, and they present the couple with a bouquet of yellow flowers. Later, Cissnei asks Aerith what she means when she says that the flowers are happy, and wonders aloud if Aerith actually can speak to them. Aerith explains that none of these flowers are really of this world of respite; rather, people will them into being, and, as they arise within the desire of the willer, Aerith knows that these flowers wish only to be returned to the ones who willed them. It is this connection in longing that Aerith can sense, and that she wishes to bridge. She reiterates that if any of her friends was lost, she do what she could to help them find her way back; her relationship to the flowers is no different.

Cissnei later accompanies Aerith and a few others again as they help Firion search for a flower. Rinoa leads them to a field of flowers on a sweeping grassy plain, which Cissnei remarks as a view that is overwhelmingly beautiful. Nevertheless, Firion cannot find what he is looking for and decides to call off the search. With the help of Reno and Zack, and at the suggestion of Rinoa, Cissnei and the others return home to the ship with wagonloads of flowers for the others in tow.

Back on the airship, Cissnei stands at a distance, watching the reunions of all the warriors with flowers dear to them, and she realizes she misread Aerith by judging her entirely according to her Cetra heritage. At that moment, Aerith runs up to her and presents her with a bouquet of her own, thanking Cissnei for being such a great help to her. While Cissnei tells Aerith that she has no strong memories associated with flowers, she is appreciative, for the flowers are warm with Aerith’s own feelings of kindness and care towards her. The two leave to thank Zack for his help with the wagon.
