Lost Chapter: The Power of Innocence[]

Cinque abruptly finds herself out of contact with the rest of Class Zero when she is accosted by several Magitek armor units. While Cinque finagles with her COMM to try to contact Ace and King, the Magitek units continue to advance on her; with a casual annoyance she swings her mace and repeatedly destroys them in a single blow. She becomes frustrated with the onslaught and focuses on fighting them first.

Cinque's blows are so powerful that they shake the ground, startling a nearby Steiner. King, who is with Steiner and fellow classmate Cater, recognizes Cinque's laugh and runs over, but Cait Sith, Ashe, and Freya reach her first. Mistaking them for her enemies' reinforcements, Cinque prepares to strike them until Ace and Seven arrive. They talk her down and explain that she has been brought from Orience into a different world. Cinque apologizes blithely; Ashe, unconvinced by her apology, privately remains uncomfortable with her reliability, while Cinque decides to join the Warriors of Light.

Later in her travels with the warriors, Cinque chats with fellow students Zell and Raijin, as well as Eiko, about the benefits of being called to a world free of assignments and tests. They are scolded by former teachers Serah and Quistis for being late to a group meeting. Cinque nicknames Rinoa and Locke, as well as Mog and Leon (to each of the latter's chagrin). When the group passes through a flower field, Cinque conspires with Aerith and Selphie to replace Barret's prosthetic machine gun with flowers and to turn Sazh's afro into a flowerpot.

Lost Chapter: Keeper of Fear[]

Cinque chats with Aerith, Tidus, King, and Cater about recreation in a post-war world when Machina joins the Warriors of Light. Cinque greets Machina enthusiastically and the group invites him into the conversation. Machina, who was summoned by Spiritus, recalls that Class Zero does not survive to enjoy a world after the war in Orience. When asked what he wants to do after the war, he freezes and says that he would merely like to return to Akademeia with Class Zero again. He breaks into tears and runs into the forest alone. Cinque and the others are baffled by his response, but Cinque defends him when Tidus chides Machina for his strange behavior.

Act 2, Ch. 9: Light of the Living[]

Outside Akademeia[]

Cinque, Ace, Machina, Cater, Tidus, and Freya become concerned that they may have become lost on an endless battlefield and wonder if it is a trap. The Class Zero cadets note that if the trap was lain by someone who had already died before they left Orience, they wouldn't recall anything about the person. Despite the tactical disadvantage, Cinque gleefully notes that the crystal's blessing of forgetfulness allows her to keep fighting at full concentration. When Freya and Tidus dismay at Cinque's glibness, she and the others become defensive as the conversation devolves into an argument. When Machina diffuses the tension by standing against Freya and Tidus, Cinque expresses her appreciation for him.

Ace distances himself from the other warriors over time, including his comrades in Class Zero. They cannot locate him, and he appears to be ignoring Mog's calls. Machina approaches Cinque and the others to tell them about Tempus Finis and the ultimate fate of Class Zero; they will probably regain their memories soon and Machina wants to forewarn them so they are not overtaken by rage or grief as Ace has been. Cinque disputes his account, noting that everyone in Class Zero still remembers each other and thus could not be dead.

Within Akademeia[]

The warriors press into the false Akademeia when Cinque notices that Mog cannot follow them; Ace has erected a magical barrier that blocks his entry. When Machina tries to leave, he is rebuffed by the barrier as well. Cinque and the others surmise that Ace must be trying to trap them in the false Akademeia. After the Warriors of Light defeat a planesgorger within the campus limits, Ace escapes to the Akademeia Chocobo Ranch to confide in Machina's dark manikin. The remaining Class Zero dark manikins take advantage of his absence to sneak away so they can return their brilliance to their counterparts from the World of Light. Seven, Eight, Jack and King reclaim their memories first; when Cinque sees their stoic responses, she becomes concerned and doubts whether they could accept such a discovery so calmly.

Cinque, Deuce and Cater encounter their own dark manikins shortly afterwards. Cinque asks her dark manikin if regaining her memories will be painful; the manikin assures that Cinque would be worse off without these memories. When Cater's dark manikin raises the point that the Cloud of Darkness intends to use Ace to destroy the world of respite, and their memories with them, Cinque realizes that she doesn't want to be one of the few Class Zero members left without their memories, and accepts the emotional consequences of the union.

Cinque, Deuce and Cater defeat their dark manikins and reabsorb their respective brilliances. As they ponder the significance of their deaths at the end of the world, Freya approaches the trio to reassure them and to offer her support. Thinking back to their earlier argument, Cinque apologizes to Freya for her ignorance, and then breaks into tears for fear of her death and of being forgotten. An oblivious Yuffie stumbles into the scene; when Cinque tearfully explains that she just learned about her own death, Yuffie starts to sob at the tragedy of her situation.

While the others take leave Cinque and Yuffie continue to cry together until Vincent Valentine comes by to check in on them. Cinque takes comfort in having a choice for life that she was never given in Orience. She stops short of siding with Ace, wanting to discuss the matter further with Machina first.

Apart from Ace, the original members of Class Zero currently in the world of respite meet with Machina. He apologizes for begrudging them and turning on them. Cinque laughs as in her eyes, Machina had come full circle to the foolishly honest boy he was when they first met. Class Zero forgives him and acknowledges him as a friend and ally. They collectively aim to rescue Ace from the deceit of the Cloud of Darkness.

After Machina talks Ace down and the warriors defeat the Cloud of Darkness, Cinque comes to terms with the future she lacks in Orience. She chats with Edgar and a few others about sightseeing in the world of respite, since they will not have the chance to do so back home.

Spoilers end here.

Allusions[]

  • Cinque is the first and only of her classmates to break down into tears during the end of Tempus Finis, when the memories of all the dead are returned to her and to the rest of Orience. This is paralleled in Act 2, when Cinque re-acquires the brilliance from her dark manikin in Ace's false Akademeia.
  • Cinque and the other Class Zero members fantasize about traveling around a post-war Orience with Mother. This parallels Cinque's conversations in Act 2, when the members of Class Zero chat with their fellow warriors about sightseeing in the world of respite now that they have accepted their deaths back in Orience.
  • Cinque joins Yuffie in the latter's Force Mode. Both are clever girls that wield oversized weapons, but act spacey.
