The Chocobo Eater (チョコボイーター, Chokoboītā?) is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy X. As its name indicates, it is a large monster with a taste for chocobo meat.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy X[]
The Chocobo Eater appears as a boss encountered on the Mi'ihen Highroad. The battle can have multiple different outcomes: the party can defeat it outright, push it back off the cliff, or be pushed off the cliff themselves. The rewards for the battle vary depending on the outcome, and the party is forced to take a different route if they are pushed.
Final Fantasy X-2[]
The Chocobo Eater returns as an optional boss once more encountered on the Mi'ihen Highroad, as well as later in Via Infinito. Yuna, Rikku, and Paine get tangled with it to save their friend Calli. Another Chocobo Eater, a child of the parent the party killed, is involved as a suspect for the Mi'ihen Highroad Mystery. Found guilty or not, the fiend is disposed of, though Rin states he admired its determination if found guilty.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII[]
The Chocobo Eater appears as a boss encountered in the Wildlands, confronted by Lightning when it is attacking the Angel of Valhalla. It later appears as a regular enemy. After completing the main quest at the Temple of the Goddess, Lightning hears Canopus Farms and its chocobos are in danger from another Chocobo Eater, and rushes to help. Defeating 30 Chocobo Eater causes the Last One to become as Chocobo Eater Ω.

Etymology[]
(チョコボール, Chokobōru?). The mascot for this product is Kyoro-chan (キョロちゃん?), a bird who says "kweh".
The name "chocobo" derives from a Japanese brand of chocolate malt ball by Morinaga, ChocoBall食う / くう / kuu is a rough way to say "eat", whose volitional casual form is 食え / くえ / kue ("let's scoff 'em down!"), leading to Kweh!
