Summon a chocobo chick. Runs hither and tither casting elemental spells.

DLC menu description

Chocobo Chick is a summoning materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission". It summons Chocobo Chick, a young yellow chocobo with a large head compared to its body. It has a small beak and green eyes, and large yellow feathers on its head somewhat akin to Cloud Strife's hairstyle (in the original Final Fantasy VII, Tifa Lockhart notes that Cloud "looks like a chocobo" when they happen upon a bird's nest whose chicks do not fear him). The design is new and unique to the remake, as even though the original Final Fantasy VII had a chocobo breeding sidequest, there was no special model for a young chocobo.

Obtained[]

Chocobo Chick was available as a pre-order bonus from buying the base version of the game. It has since been made into a free download. After claiming the DLC, the chick is added to the player's inventory at the start of the game, and the summoning materia slot will appear in Chapter 2, "Fateful Encounters". If the player has no DLC summons the slot does not appear until players receive the Ifrit Materia Ifrit Materia at the end of Chapter 3, "Home Sweet Slum". The Chocobo Chick is also compatible with "Episode INTERmission".

Chocoflare - Chocobo Chick summon sequence - Final Fantasy VII Remake

After acquiring the Chocobo Chick materia, the player can set it to any playable character's weapon and summon the bird in battle when the command becomes available. Summoning Chocobo Chick costs 1 ATB segment. Because the chick is a small summon, it can be summoned in any battlefield where summoning is possible. The elemental attacks are similar to the spells the player can use via magic materia, but hit all enemies and the player can have all elements from the start with the chick, making it versatile. It can also be used to stagger opponents.

Fat Chocobo boss[]

Fat Chocobo's moogle minion may randomly summon a baby chocobo to aid the player party in the VR mission against the colossal bird. This chick's Choco Cure heals the player party.

Etymology[]

The name "chocobo" derives from a Japanese brand of chocolate malt ball by Morinaga, ChocoBall (チョコボール, Chokobōru?). The mascot for this product is Kyoro-chan (キョロちゃん?), a bird who says "kweh".

食う / くう / kuu is a rough way to say "eat", whose volitional casual form is 食え / くえ / kue ("let's scoff 'em down!"), leading to Kweh!
