The Chocobo is a summon in Final Fantasy III, marking the creature's first appearance as a series summon. It can be called forth into battle with the Escape Summon Magic spell, serving as the first spell for Evokers and Summoners.
Profile[]
The chocobo has a similar appearance to mounts found across the world, being a yellow bipedal bird, having large wings and a long neck. In the original Famicom release, depending on the version summoned, the creature's color scheme would be different.
Obtained[]
The Escape spell to summon the chocobo can be purchased from the magic shops in Replito or in Doga's Village, it costs 100 gil in all releases. Escape is a level 1 Summon Magic that can be used by the Evoker, Summoner, and Sage jobs.
Use[]
The chocobo is the weakest summon in the game, having little usage in combat. Should an Evoker or Sage (3D) summon the creature, the chocobo will perform two random abilities; Chocobo Kick?, an attack that misses in most releases, or Chocobo Dash, which allows the party to escape a battle with a high success rate. In the Pixel Remaster, the former ability is retooled to inflict low non-elemental damage. Due to the aformention effects, players may wish to avoid using the spell.
The chocobo's worth increases to a certain degree when called forth by a Summoner or Sage (3D), due to its Chocobo Kick ability dealing moderate non-elemental damage to a single foe. However, the summon still has little worth when compared to its stronger counterparts.

Etymology[]
(チョコボール, Chokobōru?). The mascot for this product is Kyoro-chan (キョロちゃん?), a bird who says "kweh".
The name "chocobo" derives from a Japanese brand of chocolate malt ball by Morinaga, ChocoBall食う / くう / kuu is a rough way to say "eat", whose volitional casual form is 食え / くえ / kue ("let's scoff 'em down!"), leading to Kweh!
