This is a list of items that can be found in Chocobo's Dungeon 2.

Potions[]

Potions.
Empty Bottle.

Potions have randomized names until they are used or otherwise identified—the item is not identified until AFTER the effect occurs. They may be helpful or harmful. They may be used (drunk), kicked, or emptied; if drunk or emptied, they will leave behind an Empty Bottle. Potions do not stack. Potions can be found randomly in shops.

Unidentified potion types include: Bubbly, Creamy, Exciting, Flabby, Flimsy, Glowing, Greasy, Oily, Powdery, Slimy, Soft, Sparkly, Sticky, Stout, Syrupy, Tasty, Thick.

Elixir Restores all HP and Energy.
Damage 100 Deals half of current HP in damage.
Nitro 50 Explodes like a Crash Stone, dealing damage in a small area, making a crater in the floor, and destroying walls. If the player foolishly drinks this, they will be the center of this effect.
Antidote 100 Removes Poison.
Dispel 300 Removes all curse effects from currently worn equipment, allowing it to be removed.
Eyedrops 100 Removes Blind. Also reveals all traps in the level.
Remedy 500 Removes all harmful status effects.
Haste 100 Adds Haste.
Invis 300 Adds Invisible.
Amnesia 200 The most despicable of all potions. If the player accidentally drink one, all potions, nuts, cards, and collars will become unidentified, reverting to their randomized naming. All equipment will revert to unidentified status as well, hiding its stats and cursed status. If kicked at a monster, the monster will be stunned and helpless.
Blind 100 Inflicts Blind.
Morph 100 Temporarily changes the target into a random monster type. When a monster is morphed, it recovers any lost HP but not abnormal status. While morphed, the player is unable to open the menu to use items and so on, but can use one of the monster's special attacks. Normal attacks will also have any added effect that the monster's normal attacks usually have, such as turning the target into a frog. The player also gains the monster's movement abilities, such as burrowing through walls or walking through water.
Poison 100 Inflicts Poison.
Silence 100 Inflicts Silence.
Slow 100 Inflicts Slow.
Spell Curses currently worn equipment. The equipment is unchanged but cannot be removed voluntarily.

Essences[]

Essences are obtained by dealing the death blow to a creature by kicking an Empty Bottle at it. This doesn't do much damage, so one will need to remove quite a bit of the monster's HP first. Essences may be used (drunk) or kicked, but they are also useful for fusing into Claws and Saddles to give them special abilities.

Essences do not stack. Essences are never found for sale in shops, unless sold to the shop in the first place; the listed gil value is how much the shopkeeper will PAY for them. If one were to buy back one's own sold essence, one would need to pay twice the listed amount, as the resale value of items in this game is half of the buy cost.

Lamy the Lamia in the bar in the basement of the Chef le Tonberry's restaurant explains what an essence, determined at random from the ones that are being carried, does (she won't say what Lamia essence does though).

No Essence can be obtained from the following enemies: Magic Pots, inorganic enemies (Golem, Onion, Ghost, Roller) and Komega.

Nuts[]

Nuts.

Like potions, nuts have randomized names until they are used (eaten) or otherwise identified—the item is not identified until AFTER the effect occurs. Also like potions, they may be helpful or harmful and they may be used or kicked. However, unlike potions, they can also be used in fusing equipment. Nuts do not stack. Nuts can be found randomly in shops.

Types of unidentified nuts include: Bitter, Chubby, Damp, Dried, Fragrant, Juicy, Mellow, Mild, Musty, Pasty, Plump, Pungent, Ripe, Salty, Savory, Smooth, Sour, Spicy, Spongy, Sweet, Swelled, Vinegary.

Tasty Nut 400 Restores 30 HP and Energy. Target monster recovers 30 HP.
Tired Nut 200 Decrease 40 Energy. No noticeable effect.
Wisdom Nut 100 Permanently raises Chocobo's lowest spell level. Causes the target monster to level up into the next most powerful monster of its type (for example, Goblin into Dark Goblin).
Fusion Seed 800 Restores 10 Energy. Causes the target monster to level up into the next most powerful monster of its type (for example, Goblin into Dark Goblin). Combines two special effects when fusing claws. Combines two special effects when fusing saddles.
Merge Seed 800 Restores 10 Energy. Causes the target monster to level up into the next most powerful monster of its type (for example, Goblin into Dark Goblin). Can merge elements. Can merge elements.
Remove Seed 800 Restores 10 Energy. Causes target monster to disappear. Removes special effects when fusing claws. Removes special effects when fusing saddles.

Books[]

Books are the only way that spells can be cast. Chocobo cannot use books if he is suffering from Silence. Effects may be enhanced by high magic skill and Feathers. Casting the spell once uses up one book. Books of the same type stack to 99. Books can be found randomly in shops.

Note that unlike other items, which have to be directed at the target by kicking them, can miss, and require an unobstructed path to their target, single target spells cast from books may be aimed at any enemy on screen.

Cards[]

Cards.

Like potions and nuts, cards have randomized names until used or otherwise identified—the item is not identified until AFTER the target (if any) is chosen and the effect occurs. Also like potions and nuts, they may be helpful or harmful and they may be used or kicked. Using or kicking the card uses it up. Cards do not stack. Cards can be found randomly in shops.

Cards in the Chocobo's Dungeon series seem to fill the same role as scrolls do in other games in the Roguelike genre.

Types of unidentified cards include: Bent, Dull, Patched up, Punctured, Scorched, Slippery, Smeared, Stained.

Repair 500 Choose an item from the inventory; if it is a claw or saddle, it gains DUR. Mechanical monsters targeted have their HP restored.
Rust 500 Choose an item from the inventory; if it is a claw or saddle, it loses DUR. Deals 100 points of damage to target mechanical monster.
Identify 100 Identify one unknown item of choice. Scans the target.
Map 300 Fills the mini-map with the full map of the current floor.
Verify 500 Identify all unknown items. Scans the target.
Confusion 100 Inflicts Confuse status on the player. Inflicts Confuse status on the target.
Frog Inflicts Frog status on the player. Inflicts Frog status on the target.
LostChild 500 Causes the player to forget the map of the current level. Causes the target to be stunned and helpless.
Mini Inflicts Mini status on the player. Inflicts Mini status on the target.
Reflect 800 Adds Reflect status to the player. Adds Reflect status to the monster.
Sleep 100 Inflicts Sleep status on the player. Inflicts Sleep status on the target.
Warp Warps the player to a random spot on the map. Warps the target to a random spot on the map.
Doom 100 The most despicable of all cards. Summons very powerful and hostile grim reaper-type enemies to kill the player. Temporarily turns the target into a very powerful and hostile grim reaper-type monster. This is not a benefit to Chocobo or his friends. However, if the target already is a grim reaper, it will vanish.
Geyser 300 Fills a dried up spring or crater with water, turning it into a magic spring. Empty Bottles can be filled at the spring, turning them into random potions.

Stones[]

Stones.

Stones are ammo, to be kicked at the enemies. They can also be equipped to the ranged weapon slot and fired with the L1 button. Stones of the same type stack to 99.

Empty Bottle 10 Does 4 damage to the target. Kill it this way to get an Essence.

Warp Stone Warps the target to a random spot on the map.

Summon Stones[]

When used, summon stones summon a summoned monster to make a single powerful attack, then vanish. Summon stones do not stack. They can be found randomly in shops, except for the Phoenix stone, which is a dummied item.

Shiva 2000 Attacks all enemies on screen with Ice.
Sylph 2000 Attacks all enemies on screen with Wind.
Titan 2000 Attacks all enemies on screen with Earth.
Unicorn 2000 Attack all enemies on screen. Cures and removes negative status effects.

Miscellaneous items[]

These may be used or kicked and none of them stack. Most can be found randomly in shops, except the Pink Tag which only drops off the Omega Weapon.

Teleport Box 1000 Sends an item (of choice) to storage. Warps the target to a random spot on the map.
Teleport Tag 300 Leave the dungeon. Warps the target to a random spot on the map.
Thief Key 2000 Opens a thief chest.
Whistle 1000 Retrieves a random item from storage. (Chip the Hamster digs out of the ground with it.)
Advertisement
