The Chimera Mage, also known as the M.Chimera, is an enemy from Final Fantasy III. It can be found in the Temple of Time. Its Lightning attack is to be feared (especially the 3D version as it has been upgraded digits compared to the NES), which can cause some extreme damage if the party is under-leveled. In the 3D version, it can also Petrify while attacking.

Etymology

The chimera is a fire-breathing monster, one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. It is commonly represented with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail in Greek mythology. In modern usage, the term chimera is often taken to mean any sort of hybrid between two or more species.
