Chimera Brain, also known as KimaBrain or Manticore, is a boss in Final Fantasy V. It attacks Mid and Cid while they investigate Gohn Meteorite. In the Finest Fantasy for Advance and discontinued 2013 versions, Manticore is also fought in the Sealed Temple's Cloister of the Dead.

Battle[]
In addition to its normal physical attacks, Manticore uses Aqua Breath (can be learned as Blue Magic) and Frost for powerful party-wide magic damage.
While it has no elemental weaknesses, Manticore lacks the Heavy flag, leaving it vulnerable to several status ailments, fractional damage, and instant kill type effects.
Strategy[]
Time Mage's Time Magic is very effective in this battle.
- Slow will considerably reduce the boss's attack pace. It combines well with Haste on the party.
- Stop will prevent Manticore from taking actions outright.
- Gravity can repeatedly halve Manticore's current HP.
Bards can sing Romeo's Ballad as another way to inflict stop status.
Without inflicting slow or stop on the Manticore, White Mages may struggle keeping up party HP, as the Manticore may chain Aqua Breath and Frost.
Blue Mage's Blue Magic has a few options for ending the battle quickly.
- Death Claw will reduce the Manticore's HP to single digits, leaving it vulnerable to being finished by another attack.
- Missile will reduce the Manticore's current HP by 75%.
If prepared beforehand, Beastmaster can catch certain monsters and release them against Manticore to instantly win the battle:
- Cockatrice (found in North Mountain) will cast Beak to potentially petrify the Manticore.
- Page 32 (found in Library of the Ancients) will cast Banish to potentially instantly kill the boss.
- Mani Wizard (found in Wind Shrine) will cast Death to potentially instantly kill the boss.
Otherwise, job classes can simply use their strongest attacks. At least one White Mage or another job with White Magic should be healing every round.

Etymology[]
The manticore is a Persian legendary creature similar to the Egyptian sphinx. It has the body of a lion, the head of a human, and the tail of a scorpion. The name means "man eater".
