Chimera Brain (キマイラブレイン, Kimaira Burein?), also known as Manticore, KimaBrain, and Chim.Brain, is a recurring enemy in the series. This stronger variant of the Chimera debuted in Final Fantasy IV.
Appearances
Final Fantasy II
The Chimera Brain is a Soul of Rebirth enemy in Arubboth. It is a palette swap of the Chimera. They have high defense and absorb fire, ice, and lightning attacks.
Final Fantasy IV
Chimera Brains are enemies in the Sealed Cave. They absorb fire, ice, and lightning. They can use the Blaze ability, also known as Frost Blast, to deal a large amount of ice damage to the party.
One strategy to deal with them is to have Rosa cast Berserk, so it cannot use the Blaze ability. The same strategy should work in the 3D versions.
Final Fantasy IV -Interlude-
Chimera Brains are enemies in the Sealed Cave and the Tower of Babil. They are identical to their form in the previous game.
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
Chimera Brains are enemies in the Edge's Challenge Dungeon and the Lunarian's Challenge Dungeon. They are identical to their form in the previous game.
Final Fantasy V
Manticore is a boss fought at Gohn Meteorite. It attacks using Aqua Breath, Frost, and powerful physical attacks, but is vulnerable to Stop and the effects of Death Claw.
Final Fantasy X
Chimera Brains are enemies in the northwestern area of the Calm Lands. It has various magic attacks: Thundara, Megiddo Flame, and Aqua Breath. Kimahri can learn Aqua Breath from it and use it as a Ronso Rage skill. If bribed successfully, they will drop two Level 4 key spheres.
Final Fantasy XII
Chimera Brains are fiend/cockatrice-type enemies and are found in the Pharos. They can use Stone Gaze to inflict Petrify and Hawk Glare to inflict Immobilize.
Final Fantasy XIV
The Chimera Brain is the boss of the level 59 FATE "Life of Brain," found in the Beta Quadrant of Azys Lla. The flavor text for the FATE notes that thousands of years of reproduction and mutation has seen this particular chimera's cranial capacity nearly double, making it far more intelligent and dangerous than the average chimera and giving it its name.

Etymology
chimera is a fire-breathing monster, one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. It is commonly represented with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail in Greek mythology. In modern usage, the term chimera is often taken to mean any sort of hybrid between two or more species.
