Chimera is an enemy in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII found in the Luxerion Cathedral on the final day. Chimera spawns frequently in the last large room of the Altar of Salvation trial, after the player completes the trial. The player will need to spawn its Last One incarnation to complete the bestiary, but as it only spawns beyond the point of no return, the player can only complete the bestiary quest for a man in Dead Dunes in a New Game Plus.

Stats[]

  1. During Hellhowling
  2. Attacks to elemental heads

Battle[]

Chimera is immune to Lightning and Wind as long as its serpentine Lightning Head and Wind Head are active. If either head takes enough damage, it will temporarily recede, and the Chimera will become weak to its element until it returns, which is signaled by Thunder Clap and Wind Gust, respectively. It always resists Fire. After it loses both heads, the Chimera will use Firepower to buff itself with Enfire.

Strategy[]

It may be wise to bring ice-based abilities, such as Blizzara and Froststrike to stagger it faster. The player can use Beat Down to inflict moderate damage when the Chimera staggered. Lightning and Wind abilities are also effective after knocking out the Heads, which can be easily done after they use attacks, such as Charged Smash and Sonic Smash.

The best early strategy is to debuff Chimera with Deprotect and Deshell to increase the damage output from physical and magical abilities.

Etymology[]

The chimera is a fire-breathing monster, one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. It is commonly represented with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail in Greek mythology. In modern usage, the term chimera is often taken to mean any sort of hybrid between two or more species.
