Chimera is an enemy in Final Fantasy VIII. It is a four-headed monster with the heads of a goat, lion, hawk, and lizard, and a snake-headed tail. It appears on the Island Closest To Heaven and the Dingo Desert in Galbadia, although it is a very rare encounter in the latter.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Each head corresponds to an attack: the lion causes physical damage, the lizard casts Aqua Breath, the hawk casts magic, while the snake tail inflicts status effects.

Strategy[]

Having Elemental Defense that absorbs Water is useful for Chimera's Aqua Breath, as it uses it regularly. Summoning Carbuncle will bounce many of the Chimera's spells back at it, though it can dispel the effect. Alexander is a good Guardian Force to summon against it as the Chimera is weak to Holy.

Etymology[]

The chimera is a fire-breathing monster, one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. It is commonly represented with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail in Greek mythology. In modern usage, the term chimera is often taken to mean any sort of hybrid between two or more species.
