Charmion is a non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV. She is chosen to be the successor to Sokles, the Overseer of Anagnorisis. Charmion appeared during sidequests in Elpis.

History[]

Charmion has been involved in a prolonged research project in Akadaemia Anyder. Soon after she was transferred to Anagnorisis to succeed Overseer Sokles. He asked her to introduce the region to the Warrior of Light, who Sokles believes to be an Azem's familiar in search of knowledge. Although surprised at being chosen for the task, Charmion agrees to be the guide for them. Instead of simply talking as they walk, Charmion suggests talking to her colleagues. In this way, she hopes that the Warrior of Light can gain a better understanding of the work they do at Anagnorisis. After finishing their walk, the two return to Sokles. Both Sokles and Charmion were convinced that the Warrior of Light was an advanced familiar.[1]

Sokles and Charmion are eager to learn the Warrior of Light's perspective on the world. When the Warrior of Light accompanies Charmion to the south of Anagnorisis, she shows them a new species that they call the "Bird of Elpis", talks about a method of desing specimens that she considers "unorthodox", and ends by asking what the Warrior of Light thought about the researchers of Elpis.[2]

Charmion realizes that if the Warrior of Light doesn't feed, They could disappear. Panicked, she asks the Warrior of Light to pick a handful of Archestratus flowers and take them to Sokles, while she rushes off to make urgent culinary preparations. After delivering the flowers to Supervisor Sokles, he combines them with the fruit chosen by Charmion to create a mixture rich in ether and asks the Warrior of Light to drink it. Satisfied that the Warrior of Light's corporeal form is no longer in danger of dissipating, Charmion continues her lecture on the importance of proper nutrition and the evils of overindulgence.[3]

Charmion left her most philosophical question for last: how the Warrior of Light feels about their place in the world. To help her better understand her vocation in life, Charmion accompanies the Warrior of Light to the archives of Anagnorisis. While examining the documentation, the Warrior of Light discovers an impressive number of observation records, many of them written by Overseer Sokles.[4]

Charmion and the reports from FFXIV

Charmion revealed that she had been chosen to succeed Sokles, but admitted to being insecure due to her inexperience. She tells Sokles that her having masterfully shown Anagnorisis to the Warrior of Light was proof that she was suitable for the position and that he has full confidence in her knowledge and ability. Sokles credits the Warrior of Light with helping to prepare Charmion for when he "returns to the Star".[4]

When the Warrior of Light accompanies Maira and Alkaios on a visit to Anagnorisis, Overseer Sokles explains that several creatures have fallen victim to angry lykaones. Sokles called on Alkaios to speed up the decomposition of the remains with time magics, and the Warrior of Light was invited to take part in this service.[5]

At the site of the fallen creations, the conversation turns to the subject of mourning and the Warrior of Light shares the traditions of honoring the dead. Fascinated by the idea of leaving a physical reminder, Maira asks the Warrior of Light to follow her to a place where she can prepare an offering of flowers for the deceased.[5]

Having gathered a small handful of "krinoi" conjured by Maira, the Warrior of Light delivers the offering to the waiting Sokles. Sokles accepts the flowers and places them with the remains. The simple gesture, together with Alkaios' solemn words, seems to have touched the hearts of those present. The Anagnorisis observers thanked for their contribution before sending them back to Poieten Oikos.[5]
